Built by the Dutch in 1663, Galle Fortress is a World Heritage Site. It is the largest preserved European fortress in South Asia and embodies the successful combination of European and Asian architecture. A special landmark of the city is the St. Mary’s Cathedral, founded by the Jesuits. From here you can also enjoy a wonderful view of the white lighthouse and the old harbor of the city.
