The mansion near Kalutera, built at the turn-of-the-century, is considered one of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular architectural works. Richmond Castle is a two-story building in the architectural style of the Maharaja palaces that was once built by a wealthy Mudali (colonial official title).
The impressive castle, which has 34 windows and 99 doors, is a reminder of times long gone. A tour of the house will introduce you to this era presenting you with interesting facts about the owner. Today it is, among other things, an educational center for orphans.
