The turtle farm in Kosgoda is one of the oldest farms in Sri Lanka. Since 1979, the conservation of the endangered sea turtles has been supported by the state conservation agency, Greenpeace and scientists. Apart from the sick and injured animals, baby turtles are supported in their first days of life and afterwards released into the sea. The visitors contribute to the preservation of the station by the entrance fee and can even hold the small turtles in their hands.
